Tailored and Made is all about planning the perfect day. We think the best days are ones where you get to wander to new places, experience new things, meet new people-all whilst doing some of your favourite things. So we’ve collected a few of the things that we love doing in South London
South London has plenty of pools on offer with Brockwell and Tooting Lidos and Beckenham Place Park Swimming Lake, the best way to beat the crowds is to get up super early and head out before everyone is still asleep. If you’re not early risers like us, you can join the queue but be warned as soon as the sun is out so are all the swimmers! Once inside you can set up your towel and lounge all day, we particularly love the tea hut at Brockwell Lido.
GO FOR A COFFEE
In our house, going for a coffee is an activity, it’s almost a ritual. Luckily for us Peckham is home to some of the best coffee brands and coffee shops. Home to Old Spike Roastery we also have great cafes like Coal Rooms, Anderson and Co, The General Store and Poached.
HEAD TO A LOCAL MARKET
A starting point for so many independent brands, small brand markets are really great for discovering new products and companies. Spoilt for choice in the South some of our favorites are Mercato Metropolitano, an Italian leaning food market that also houses the Crafty Fox Market once a month. Maltby Street Market and Tooting Market are both great food and drink destinations and Brixton Market is still one of the best destinations in the area for mooching around and taking in the atmosphere and independent shops, bars, and restaurants.
TRY SOMETHING NEW
From Axe Throwing to Rock Climbing, South London has some of the best activities. Our new favourite is well and truly hidden away. Next to Lidl and Poundstretcher, tucked away behind Burger King is Flying Fantastic an aerial fitness school.
GRAB A DRINK
There are so many options that we continue to list the best places, but there are a few firm favourites we keep coming back to. Peckham Springs is too much of a classic to be overlooked, with a happy hour to rival anyone and some a constantly unpretentious vibe, it’s the perfect place to start off or just have a couple of relaxing drinks. South London seems to have an affinity with rooftop bars as well, Franks Cafe, CFL Art Cafe, Lost in Brixton, The Tankard, Prince of Wales the list goes on.
EAT LOCAL
This almost needs to be broken down by specific areas as South London has the most incredible local eateries. But small, local restaurants really define the culture of each area. Being small they are able to adapt quickly to seasonal recipes and new ideas, providing you with a braver yet more intimate dining experience. Beware though that some may need booking, the opening of Nandine’s provided queues on end and Artusi is often too busy on a Saturday night for a walk-in.
