QUALITY TIME IN QUARANTINE

We love an experience, and traditionally that means going somewhere to experience something. We had plans lined up throughout the beginning half of this year panning through puppy yoga, pottery and brunches all the way to holidays abroad. When so much of our enjoyment is gained through in real-life experiences, what happens when you’re suddenly not allowed out of your house. Well, we decided to create the experiences WITHIN the house. We are lucky enough to have a big enough house for good size shared spaces and a garden; so this is how we managed to keep ourselves busy and continue to have new experiences all while under lockdown.

VIRTUAL WINE TASTING

With @pullthecork and @elliotwain we settled down on a Saturday night to learn all about wines, including an early morning (for them) dial into Peyton winary in Australia. I can’t fully remember everything that we learnt (I felt like I did at the time) but it was an excellent activity full of new information and a very entertaining host.

COOKING SOMETHING NEW

We love food, and love going to new restaurants to try new cuisine. So we attempted to mirror this at home. From fresh pasta and homeade mexican to Jamaican breakfasts and barbeques, we laboured in the kitchen to make all new recipes that we had never done before and ate together to really enjoy them.

DOING A GROUP QUIZ

Having wanted to go to a pub quiz as a house for a long time, the lockdown actually gave us the opportunity to do this with minimal effort. We did multitudes of quizzes, starting pretty shackily with my work and rising to the top to come first after four weeks. Rachel also managed to create a different quiz every week for her family, these included drawing rounds, scavenger hunts and musical statues!

GOING ON A PUB CRAWL

This was one of my favourite nights. We each chose a theme or a bar (in secret) and spent the week planning it. Then on the Saturday night we got dressed up (for this first time in lockdown for me) and went on a pub crawl around our house. We started at Petersham Nurseries for a Fig Cocktail, headed to Scotland for a Whisky Sour and shot of Edinburgh Gin then ended in December at a Christmas Bar complete with gifts (the traditional Terry’s Chocolate Orange included) and Christmas Cocktails. Seeing all the spaces in your house completely transformed was so refreshing – having not spent huge amounts of time in each others rooms it also made you feel like you were somewhere completely different (very welcoming after over 30 days of not being anywhere else)

MOVIE NIGHTS

A classic but still a favourite. Being able to tick off a few of our bucket list films together was great. Our hitlist ranged from classics to the latest Disney blockbusters.

EXERCISE CLASSES

We’re pretty good at keeping fit in this house, so we took full advantage of the lockdown live classes. We tried everything. We did boxing with rumble, barre with psycle and it was all hard work but a great way to keep fit and entertained. Access to some of the best trainers in the world during this time seemed too good to be true, brands like equinox were keeping us inspired with their IGTV series for their app Varris and doing the live workouts, seeing people around the world join and comment made you feel part of something in a way that you don’t get just going for a run by yourself (although we did also do this – managing to run about 100k in total).

BREAD MAKING

One of those activities that you simply don’t have the time for in normal life. Along with probably the entirety of the world we tried our hand at bread making. Having the ability to make the dough at lunch and let it sit and prove for four hours proved invaluable for the quality of our homeade pizza dough (our hot cross buns were sadly not as big of a success).

DRAWING CLASSES

Also something that I had been hesitant to do before lockdown, we took the time to do drawing classes with Aligiheri and Alexandria Coe and Partnership Editions and Venetia Berry. Alongside the actual class I was just so amazed and grateful that we were able to interact with artists and brands that I find so inspiring. Access to thought leaders and role models throughout the lockdown is one of the things I truly treasured.
