FIVE THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHEN PLANNING A DAY OUT IN LONDON

Day’s out in London are great, they’re so great we built a business out of it. But now, more than ever you have to plan ahead! Here are some of our top things to take into consideration before you even start thinking of a plan. Not big on making plans but still love a day out; head to our website to book your day out without doing any planning!

Which area of London do you want to visit?

London is big, it’s bigger than our second biggest city Birmingham by about eight fold, and around sixteen times larger than Manchester. So it’s big. So big that you can’t possibly see all of London in one day (we’ve been here for eight years and still haven’t seen it all). So the first thing you need to think about is what area do you actually want to go to? North of the river, South of the river, the edginess of Shoreditch or the tourist draw of central. Picking your area is the first thing you need to think about. Take a look at our guide to see which areas of London we think are the best.

How much time do you have?

So time is a big thing to think about. Are you travelling in to London, do you have a train you need to catch home or a limit to the time you can spend out and about. Understanding how long your day will be will help you decide how many places you can visit and how long you can spend in each place.

Who are you spending the day with?

A best friend, a date, your kids! Who you are with is a huge part of how to plan your day. You want to make sure that there is a common interest, or a split of interests across the day. A great tip to plan out your day is to ask questions to learn more about each other. Not only does this help plot your activities – but it also gives you the opportunity to find out more about each other.

What is the reason for the day?

Sometimes there doesn’t have to be a reason! But if there is a special occasion it’s always great to plan around it. Maybe you haven’t seen the other person for a long time, or maybe it’s for a treat or birthday. This can help guide where you go and what you do. If you’re having a catch up after a long time then you’ll want to pick somewhere quiet enough to have a chat; if you’re out for a birthday treat you can head somewhere lively that will make a big deal out of it for you! All these small touches can really help you decide what to do and where to go when you’re faced with so many amazing choices!

What budget do you have?

Setting a budget doesn’t seem fun at the time, but it does need thinking about when you’re planning a day out. We like to budget per part of the day, knowing you’re not going to overspend in the morning and you’re still on track for any dinner plans you have. You will also have to factor in travel and entry to anywhere you are planning on going. Scoping out the cost before you head out also means you can know exactly where to go.
